What makes a pool worth travelling for

Orientation matters more than length. A pool that faces west gives you two useful hours at the end of the day; one that faces a wall gives you none.

The second test is shade. In a city this warm, a pool without a shaded edge is a pool you use twice.

The rooftop pools

Height changes the experience entirely — wind, view, and the sense of swimming above the traffic. The best of them are heated in winter and chilled in summer.

The beach-level pools

At sea level, the pool competes with the sea. The properties that win are the ones that put the pool between the guest and the water rather than behind the building.
